Performance Opportunities, Criteria & Guidelines
Voices of Freedom 250 accepts artist and performer submissions for consideration across Voices Alive!, Veterans Village, ceremonial and special performances, and other approved programming throughout the Houston launch and national tour.
This page explains the available performance pathways, what the Voices of Freedom 250 programming team considers when evaluating talent, and what is required before an artist can be considered.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Different parts of the Voices of Freedom 250 Experience require different kinds of performers. Artists should submit for the opportunity that best reflects where they believe they can contribute.
VOICES ALIVE!
Voices Alive! is the primary concert and storytelling stage of Voices of Freedom 250.
Main Stage programming is highly curated and limited. Artists may include veteran and military-connected performers, nationally recognized artists, regional and local talent, and other performers whose work meets the artistic, audience, production, mission, and economic requirements of the event.
Submission for Voices Alive! does not guarantee Main Stage selection or placement.
VETERANS VILLAGE
The Veterans Village Stage is a distinct community performance and conversation platform within the Veterans Village experience.
Programming may include veteran and military-connected artists, acoustic performances, singer-songwriters, spoken word and poetry, authors, storytelling, interviews and conversations, educational or mission-aligned presentations, community and local performers, and other approved programming.
Participation on the Veterans Village Stage does not imply or guarantee Voices Alive! Main Stage placement.
CEREMONIAL + SPECIAL
Voices of Freedom 250 includes musical, spoken-word, ceremonial, and commemorative moments throughout the experience and during Voices Alive!
Artists may be considered for the National Anthem, opening or patriotic performances, military tributes, remembrance moments, choir or ensemble roles, spoken word, Voice Artifact creative responses, Voice Covenant or closing performances, and other approved special-performance opportunities.
CEREMONIAL & SPECIAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
Each tour market may require a vocalist, vocal group, choir, or approved instrumental performer for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” National Anthem submissions must include live footage of the artist performing the anthem in full.
Selected vocalists, musicians, choirs, ensembles, or other performers may be considered for opening musical moments, patriotic selections, or other event-specific performances. Final repertoire and format are determined by the programming and production teams.
Selected performers or ensembles may participate in musical moments recognizing veterans from the branches of the United States Armed Forces, including approved service songs, medleys, vocal or instrumental performances, or other tribute programming.
Selected vocalists, instrumentalists, choirs, spoken-word performers, or ensembles may accompany moments honoring those who did not return home and veterans who have since passed.
Local, regional, military-connected, veteran, university, youth, community, gospel, and other qualified choirs or ensembles may be considered for opening performances, the National Anthem, military tributes, featured artist collaborations, memorial moments, Voice Covenant programming, closing performances, or other approved presentations.
Poets, spoken-word artists, narrators, and veteran storytellers may be considered for short featured performances throughout Voices Alive!, Veterans Village, memorial programming, the Voice Covenant, or other appropriate moments.
Selected artists may be invited to create or perform work inspired by an approved veteran Voice Artifact, including original songs, spoken word, instrumental compositions, choir or ensemble arrangements, collaborative performances, or other approved creative works.
Selected artists, vocalists, choirs, ensembles, or instrumentalists may be considered for closing musical moments connected to the Voice Covenant or the conclusion of Voices Alive! The format may vary by market and final production plan.
Artists whose proposed contribution does not fit one of the categories above may describe another performance or creative role for consideration.
Certain formal ceremonial roles—including Taps, Color Guard, Honor Guard, and formal military ceremony—may be sourced separately through appropriate military, veteran, or community partners rather than through the general artist submission process.
ARTIST SELECTION CRITERIA
Every artist submission is evaluated in the context of the specific performance opportunity, city, audience, programming needs, production plan, and overall event.
No artist is expected to satisfy every criterion. Different opportunities require different strengths.
WHAT EACH ARTIST BRINGS MATTERS
Every performance opportunity at Voices of Freedom 250 is curated around the overall value an artist or performer brings to the experience.
That value can take many forms: exceptional artistry, audience and ticket demand, a compelling story, veteran or community connection, promotional reach, market relevance, strategic relationships, partnership opportunities, or other meaningful contributions to the mission and sustainability of the tour.
Different artists bring different strengths. An established performer may bring significant audience demand. An emerging artist may bring an extraordinary performance or story. A local artist may bring exceptional relevance to a particular community. A veteran artist may bring a lived connection to the mission that cannot be replicated by someone else.
There is no single formula.
The programming team considers the total picture when determining artistic fit, performance role, stage placement, compensation, production feasibility, and whether an engagement makes sense for a particular Voices of Freedom 250 event.
NO PAY-TO-PLAY
Voices of Freedom 250 does not charge artists a fee to purchase a performance slot.
Artists may bring value to an event in many ways, including artistic excellence, compelling story, audience and ticket demand, promotional reach, community connection, market relevance, partnership relationships, sponsorship introductions, fundraising potential, or other contributions that strengthen the experience and support the sustainability of the tour.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
To help our programming team evaluate submissions efficiently, artists or their authorized representatives should be prepared to provide the information and material listed here.
Live-performance footage is required for artists seeking a live performance opportunity.
Studio recordings, produced music videos, or edited promotional reels may be submitted as additional material, but they do not replace live-performance footage.
For National Anthem submissions, footage of the artist performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” in full is required.
ADDITIONAL VALUE OR RELATIONSHIPS · OPTIONAL
Artists or representatives may also share additional value or relationships they believe may support the mission.
This may include relevant community relationships, veteran connections, promotional opportunities, media relationships, strategic introductions, sponsorship relationships, or other resources the artist believes may be meaningful to Voices of Freedom 250.

BEFORE ANY PERFORMANCE IS CONFIRMED
Submitting an artist for consideration is not a booking and does not guarantee selection.
Any performance or creative engagement is subject to final agreement between the parties. Depending on the opportunity, a written agreement may address performance role, date and location, compensation or honorarium, travel, accommodations, hospitality, technical and production requirements, rehearsals, scheduling, recording and broadcast, photography and video, name/image/likeness, music and other intellectual-property rights, promotional obligations, insurance, approvals, cancellation, and other material terms.
PROGRAMMING DECISIONS
Voices of Freedom 250 is programming a complete experience—not simply filling available stage time.
An artist may be exceptional and still not be the right fit for a particular city, stage, program moment, audience, or production.
Submitting for one opportunity may also lead the programming team to consider an artist for another opportunity that appears to be a stronger fit.
Programming decisions remain at the discretion of the Voices of Freedom 250 programming team and are subject to availability, funding, venue, production, scheduling, final agreements, and other event requirements.
