FOR VETERANS →A NATIONAL MOVEMENT · A PERSONAL PROMISE
Voices of Freedom 250 is a national movement to engage, capture, preserve, and celebrate the voices of America’s veterans.
WHY THIS EXISTS
America is turning 250. Voices of Freedom 250 was created to make sure those who defended our freedom are celebrated—and that the stories that defined their service live on. Our mission is to capture and preserve 250,000 veteran stories—Voice Artifacts recorded in veterans’ own voices—during America’s yearlong 250th-anniversary celebration.
WHY VOICES OF FREEDOM 250 →THE VETERAN STORY IS AMERICA’S STORY
The 250,000 veteran stories we’re capturing are intended to become the largest collection of veteran stories in American history. Across the nation, Voices of Freedom 250 attendees will experience these Voice Artifacts in the Hall of Voices, and veterans will have the opportunity to record their own. Daniel’s voice makes the mission personal.
And that's what I did, because I started talking to them, I'm trying to make them understand, what you got right now, you're never gonna get rid of it. So deal with it.
But let me tell you, when I came back from Vietnam, I still had 18 months of duty, I didn't, I wasn't drafted. So it wasn't, like, a two year combat and you're back home. How the hell do you process that? You can't.
I went from a Ranger company in ‘Nam, I went to a Ranger company in Fort Benning. I'm around fellow Rangers, you know, and most of them had combat experience like me. We could talk every night. It helped because I had that time. I wasn't going anywhere. So you talk to other vets, and you learn to deal.
These guys don't. They can't talk to their parents. So it's kind of hard for them to connect. So they keep more of it balled in than they should.
